Signaling via guanylyl cyclase C: cGMP, Src and p21
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Guanylyl cyclase C (GC-C) is a receptor expressed in intestinal epithelial cells and activation of GCC by its ligands elevates intracellular cGMP which results in an inhibition of cell proliferation [1]. Multiple regulatory mechanisms operate in GC-C to modulate its activity, and include ligand binding to the extracellular domain, ATP binding to the kinase homology domain and additional structural features that link the kinase homology domain to the C-terminal guanylyl cyclase domain [2]. The persistent expression of GC-C in colorectal carcinomas and occult metastases makes it a marker for malignancy.

Calcium-sensitive particulate guanylyl cyclase as a modulator of cAMP in olfactory receptor neurons.
The second messengers cAMP and inositol-1,4,5-triphosphate have been implicated in olfaction in various species. The odorant-induced cGMP response was investigated using cilia preparations and olfactory primary cultures. Odorants cause a delayed and sustained elevation of cGMP. A component of this cGMP response is attributable to the activation of one of two kinetically distinct cilial receptor...

متن کاملRole of L-arginine/NO/cGMP/KATP channel signaling pathway in the central and peripheral antinociceptive effect of thymoquinone in rats
Objective(s): Growing evidence demonstrates that L-arginine/NO/cGMP/KATP channel pathway has a modulatory role in pain perception. Previous studies have shown that thymoquinone exerts antinociceptive effects; however, the mechanisms underlying antinociception induced by thymoquinone have not been fully clarified. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the role of L-arginine/NO/cGMP/KATP c...

متن کاملPAK-in' Up cGMP for the Move
Although guanylyl cyclases have been implicated in cell migration, how they are activated to promote cell motility is unknown. In this issue, report direct communication between guanylyl cyclases and the Rac-p21-activated kinase (PAK) signaling pathway--which is essential for cell migration--to promote cell motility, through allosteric activation of guanylyl cyclases by autophosphorylated PAK.
